Races report by Costas Agrafiotis click to enlarge

On May 11, 2005 there was a big endurance race at the Arena Track in Athens. Team XRAY was reluctant to participate in this event, since in 4 days their cars had to be ready for the Greek Championship in Crete. But since everyone else had been practicing these days, Costas Agrafiotis decided to race the endurance race (with 1 hour final) to learn how to drive a little better. So off he went to teammate Papachrsitos’ pastry shop, ate some chocolate candies and went away with his XB8 so he could keep his own XB8 in top shape for the championship. Papachristos wished his car goodbye and went to make some more pastries.

At the race, Costas decided to practice for an hour just before the 1 hour final. The XB8 already had a race under its belt and now would have one more hour. At the start of the race and for the ensuing 20 minutes, there was a close battle between 3 drivers: Agrafiotis, Stathopoulos, and Kenkes. All three of them had much fun on the stand until Sathopoulos almost destroyed his Mugen’s front end at the pit entry – he was not having fun any more. Kenkes was pushing hard but his tires did not like it, so Agrafiotis cruised to finish in first place, amazed that his XB8 lasted again for the whole race.

After the race, they all went out together to eat some souvlaki and sample the local beverages. Drivers from the final also had the chance to win some great chargers and other stuff from the organizer.

So now the cars were ready for Crete and the team traveled to the Southern Greek island – some for the entire weekend, and only Sunday for others. The local track is great and the EFRA GP will be held there in September. More than 40 drivers were present and the competition was really tough, and the track was very slippery and hot. After many souvlaki and some local ‶raki※ beverage, Agrafiotis, Belibasakis, and Louis made it to the Main Final.

Louis was unlucky and finished 7th but took home some points, local driver Belibasakis managed 6th, Agrafiotis tried hard, found a good setup just at the end of qualifying, but made mistakes and finished a very disappointing 2nd overall. The championship still has 5 races to go, with the next one at Thessaloniki, in Northern Greece, on a brand new track.

Team XRAY consisted of:

-Philip « No more kids for now » Louis
-Thanos « Motocrosser » Macropoulos
-Costas « RadioControl » Agrafiotis

Those were the Athens drivers, plenty more completed the team locally!
